2012 Volvo S80

Volvo has always had a history of superior quality and safety, and the updates to its S80 sedan for 2012 focus even further on providing a safe and reliable vehicle. The majority of the S80 updates center around safety and simplicity. The Volvo S80 has always been Volvo's flagship sedan. It is Volvo's most exclusive vehicle, and in 2012 that proves to be even more the case with the release of the Executive version.

While exterior modifications on the S80 may not be noticeable at first glance, rest assured, this vehicle has received a functionality makeover. The 2012 Volvo S80

sports redesigned headlamps, LED turn signals in each of the side mirrors, and a new color choice.

Specifications

The 2012 S80 has also received some new features under the hood. The 3.2-liter, 24-valve, dual overhead cam, inline six engine has been re-tuned to provide higher performance in the 240-horsepower range and 236-pound-feet of torque. For a sedan, the S80 is quite nimble and corners nicely on MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension. The four-wheel independent suspension system also features a front and rear stabilizer bar.

Safety Features

Volvo and safety have been two terms that are nearly interchangeable. Aside from standard safety items like front and rear head airbags, dual front side-mounted airbags, child seat anchors, emergency braking assistance, stability control, traction control, emergency braking preparation, and blind spot information system, the 2012 Volvo S80 also implements cutting edge safety with its intelligent information management system, and driver head restraint and whiplash protection system.

The S80 also comes with the Sensus infotainment system, which was introduced in the 2011 Volvo S60. The Sensus system presents information to the driver on a five- or seven-inch screen that is placed high up in the center console in the middle of the dashboard. This system provides the driver with warnings, pedestrian detection, active cruise control, and collision warnings, as well as other safety information.

On the Inside

As usual, Volvo excels at simple, elegant design. The S80 is no different. It features an interior that is defined by its simplicity. Everything has a purpose and no design element is frivolous. Luxurious appointments on the leather seating provide comfort and style. The dashboard is sparse, but elegantly melds into the overall look of the interior. The steering wheel provides the driver with everything she or he may need at the touch of a fingertip, and the gauge cluster is easily visible over the steering column.

Style

The exterior paint is available in Biarritz Blue, Black, Electric Silver Metallic, Ember Black Metallic, Ice White, Oyster Gray Metallic, and Savile Gray Metallic. The interior is available in two-tone Espresso Brown/Soft Beige, Toscana Tan/Off-Black, and single colors of Off-Black and Soft Beige.

Volvo will always be known for its high level of safety, luxurious appointments, and Swiss School design edict. With the 2012 S80, Volvo has raised the bar in all three of these areas. The result is a vehicle that will be valued by its owners for many years.
